I write these pages to be useful before an appointment, which means being clear about what they cannot do.
They cannot assess you. A page about back pain describes patterns; your back needs testing. They cannot account for your medications, and that is where the real risk sits — herbal medicine alongside anticoagulants, antidepressants, thyroid or diabetes medication needs an individual conversation, not a web page. They cannot see your test results. And they cannot know what has already been excluded, which is usually the most important piece of information.
Nothing here should delay medical assessment. See a doctor for anything new, severe or worsening, and urgently for: fever with pain, unexplained weight loss, any abnormal bleeding, progressive numbness or weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain, breathlessness on exertion, a sudden severe headache, or a new or changing lump or skin lesion. You will find no testimonials and no promises of results on this site. That is a legal requirement for registered health practitioners in Australia and it is also the honest position. Where evidence is weak or mixed — and for several things I do, it is — the relevant page says so.
