What I do: acupuncture, Chinese herbal prescribing, and the assessment that decides which of those is appropriate or whether neither is.
Where I think I am genuinely useful. Mechanical pain that has been assessed properly and needs both treatment and a loading plan. Cycle-related symptoms, where the tradition asks better questions than most and where I can also spot what needs referring. Digestive complaints that have been medically cleared and are still there. Sleep, and the physical side of a hard stretch. And the patient carrying eight symptoms nobody has put together.
Where I send people instead, and I do this often. Blood tests first, through your GP, when the picture could be iron, thyroid, B12 or coeliac disease. Psychology, via a GP mental health treatment plan, for depression, anxiety disorders and trauma. Pelvic health physiotherapy for leaking, prolapse symptoms, pain with sex, or a guarding pelvic floor. Accredited Practising Dietitians for supervised dietary trials. Multidisciplinary pain services for widespread long-standing pain. And a doctor, that week, for any red flag.
What I will not do: run weight loss programmes, sell detoxes, order tests that will not change anything, dispense herbs without a consultation and review, or sell a pre-paid course of appointments.
Prices, including the likely cost of a full course, are given before anything starts. The clinic is in Lane Cove, opposite the library.
