Have you tried to get pregnant in past 6 - 12 months without success?
A few factors may reduce the chances of pregnancy:
Body Weight: overweight and under weight can both have adverse impact on fertility. A healthy BMI between 20 and 25 increase chance of fertility.
Diet: Sugar intake will cause inflammation, ages the reproductive organ and reduce the egg quality. Fried food is full of trans fat induces inflammation and insulin resistance.
Stress: Stress is normal in daily life. When it is unmanageable, it will reduce the chances of fertility as stress releases chemicals and hormones like cortisol that interfere with follicular development and inflammation processes for ovulation.
Ideally, infertility acupuncture starts three months before IVF and IUI treatments to assist with blood circulation and reduce stress levels.
On your first visit, the Rainbow Medicine acupuncturist will ask questions about diet, sleep habits, medical history, stress level and sleep pattern.
Rainbow Medicine acupuncture clinic in Balgowlah tailors the infertility acupuncture treatment plan to your condition. We recommend starting the acupuncture treatment once a week, one month before the cycle and twice a week during IVF.
I will not tell you that acupuncture improves your chance of conceiving, because the evidence does not support it. If that is what you are looking for, I would rather you knew now.
What I do is check the things that get skipped and make sure the medical pathway is actually running. Has the male partner had a semen analysis — a third of cases involve male factors and this gets delayed for a year routinely. Have thyroid function and iron been checked. Is vitamin D measured. Is folate and iodine supplementation in place, and started before conception rather than after. Is cervical screening current. Has any regular medication been reviewed for pregnancy. Are cycles actually ovulatory, and is there three months of records rather than an impression.
And the referrals: your GP for the first round of tests for both partners, a fertility specialist where indicated, and a pelvic health physiotherapist where there is pain with sex or pelvic floor guarding, which is underdiagnosed and treatable.
What I then treat is narrower: cycle-related pain, sleep, and the physical side of a long and draining process. If you are in an IVF cycle, no herbal medicine without your specialist\u{2019}s written clearance, positioning and technique change during stimulation, and I need to know where you are in the cycle at every appointment.
The clinic is in Lane Cove, opposite the library, and I write to your GP and specialist.
