Breech Presentation and Questions About Moxibustion

7:40 pm 24 October 2026 0 Comments

Learning your baby is breech can send you searching for options. Christine explains why your midwife or obstetrician should guide decisions before any complementary approach is discussed.

Understandable questions

Hearing that your baby is in a breech position late in pregnancy can bring a rush of questions, and searching widely for options is a very natural response. Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, has undertaken further study in pregnancy and IVF support, and she often hears from parents-to-be who have come across moxibustion while researching.

Every pregnancy is different. Decisions need to take into account how many weeks along you are, your pregnancy history and the advice of your maternity team.

Your midwife or obstetrician comes first

Before considering any complementary approach, speak with your midwife or obstetrician. They can explain the options available to you and what they recommend. When you contact Christine, let her know what your maternity team has advised and the plan you have agreed with them.

It is reasonable to ask Christine about the evidence, the possible risks and the alternatives. She will be straightforward about what is and is not known, and she will not promise that any approach will turn the baby.

Things to avoid

  • Starting a moxibustion routine at home based on a general article or video.
  • Letting any additional approach delay a recommended check-up, scan or appointment.
  • Changing your maternity plan without discussing it with your care team.

Comfort and safety during pregnancy

If moxibustion is ever considered with your maternity team’s knowledge, comfort and safety need careful attention. Agree on how you will signal if heat becomes too much, and ask what aftercare is involved. Your skin sensitivity, any breathing reaction to smoke and how you are feeling on the day all matter. Instructions should be written for you, not borrowed from someone else’s experience.

Asking questions in Lane Cove

Christine sees pregnant clients at the Lane Cove clinic. While you weigh up your options, bringing a note of your maternity team’s advice helps keep everyone working from the same plan.
