Moxibustion is not a catch-all answer to low energy. In traditional theory it suits some patterns and not others, which is why Christine starts with your history and symptoms.
On a chilly winter morning, the idea of a warming herbal treatment can sound perfect. It is easy to see why moxibustion is sometimes marketed as a general wellness ritual for anyone who feels cold or low in energy. Traditional practice, however, is more selective than that.
Classical accounts single out some patterns as fitting for moxa and warn against it in others. Within that framework, simply feeling chilly or worn out does not give enough detail to settle on a heat therapy. These are traditional ideas, but even on their own terms they call for assessment rather than a blanket routine.
Tiredness and feeling cold can have many causes, some of which need medical attention. If these symptoms are new, persistent or getting worse, it is sensible to see your GP. Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, encourages that step and is happy for medical care to run alongside any treatment at the Freshwater clinic.
When you see Christine, she will ask about:
From there, you can ask whether moxibustion fits her assessment and what alternatives exist. The decision should come from your circumstances, not from an assumption that warmth helps whenever energy dips.
If moxibustion is used, agree in advance on how you will flag that the heat is too strong, and ask what to do at home afterwards. Mention any reduced feeling in your skin, sensitive skin or breathing issues. Your instructions should be yours alone; an internet routine or a neighbour's story cannot decide what suits you.
Christine values the warming traditions of Chinese medicine, and she also values honesty about when they fit. If you have been considering moxa at home, talk it over with her in Freshwater first, so any warmth you use has a clear reason behind it.
